| Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow | ![]() |
Most every person, institution or organization has a past, a present and a future. Our very lives are comprised of our yesterdays, our todays and our tomorrows. First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Moline, Illinois has served the Quad City area for more than 90 productive years. |
Paying for a new building during the depression was a tremendous task that called for a full measure of faith, commitment and determination, and much of our present was made possible by those who have gone before its sacrificial service.
The happiest days of my life have been spent in this church. I became its senior minister in 1953 and served in that capacity for 17 years. These were great days for most all churches, when life was simpler and less distracting and families were more closely united in all activities, including their religious life. The church prospered and grew, aided by the labors of dedicated ministerial leaders such as Reverend Scott Hussan, Reverend Stephen Carnock, Reverend Gladys Carnock, and Reverend Stephen Massey. The church office served the congregation well through the skillful and dedicated labors of the staff of secretaries.
Moving into another profession, my relationship to this particular church went "on hold". For eighteen years I was away from this church with my family but returned again to be received in the warm love and fellowship of this community of believers where I have been ever since. The intervening years have brought their share of victories and disappointments.
Nationally, church programs have waxed and waned, but the church still stands proudly in the midst of her community to serve, labor and love that more may know a close relationship with Jesus Christ and those of like spirit who seek to serve him through serving each other.
Today one seems to sense a revitalization of the spirit of our church, as we are being led by a young hard working minister who is visionary, caring and devoted to his people. As we view our world today, when it seems to stand in the position of rapid change and grave uncertainty, while life seems shifting all about us, the church still stands with its eyes wide open---grateful for the rich past, working hard in an exciting present, but eagerly anticipating a promising future. First Christian Church of Moline, Illinois has always opened its doors and its heart for those who feel the need for another and greater dimension of life and this, our church, will care about you, your family and your friends if you will only give us the opportunity to know you better.
